Savonlinna – 130 km
Savonlinna is a popular Finnish resort town. The main peninsula and the islands that make up the city are connected by numerous ferries and bridges, earning the town its nickname — the “Venice of Finland.”
On one of its islands stands the medieval Swedish castle, Olavinlinna. The castle hosts permanent exhibitions and, in the summer, is home to the world-famous Savonlinna Opera Festival.
While exploring the town, be sure to walk along Linnankatu, the oldest street in the city, founded by the craftsmen of Olavinlinna Castle. By the 19th century, Linnankatu had evolved from a neighborhood for traders and artisans into the most prestigious district of Savonlinna.
