Kummakivi Balancing Rock – 41 km, Sammalsilta (Moss Bridge) – 42 km
A huge boulder in the heart of the forest, over seven meters long and about three meters high, balances on a convex, smooth rock. Thousands of years ago, a retreating glacier smoothed the bedrock and “placed” this massive boulder, brought from far away, upon its peak. As the glacier melted, lakes, marshes, and forests emerged, but the boulder remained “hanging” on the cliff.
From the parking lot, a forest trail approximately 700 m long leads to the boulder. In June and July, there will be mosquitoes in the forest, so a hood and long sleeves will be very useful.
The picturesque moss bridge, Sammalsilta, was originally built by the Kaukas company in 1930. The bridge served as a crossing for loggers. Today, it primarily serves as a pedestrian crossing for eco-tourists and nature lovers. You can reach Sammalsilta by following the path from Kummakivi. In just a few minutes, the trail leads to a bridge over the narrow Lake Pitkäjärvi, which stretches in both directions with beautiful rocky shores. This crossing is Sammalsilta — a bridge that leads to the opposite shore of the lake.
